Well, guys, it’s evident that The War Within pre-patch hasn’t started as well as the developers hoped, and it doesn’t hold too much hope that The War Within will release without any issues. It’s been over a week since I posted a blog post because of the work undertaken and the problems I’ve experienced during the pre-patch and Beta testing.
Continue reading for a brief rundown of the issues affecting players in The War Within pre-patch!
Warband Bank:
One of the hotly-tipped additions to The War Within was the Warband Bank, which allowed players to share items and gold with all their characters. Sadly, upon the release of the pre-patch, access to the Warband Bank was short-lived. Rumors suggested players could dupe gold, and issues (that weren’t visible within Beta) resulted in players accessing/sharing items within MoP-Remix.
Given the issues, Blizzard quickly disabled the option to create/open the Warband Bank. With reset day almost upon us, Blizzard has greeted us with optimism, ensuring that the Warband Bank will be reenabled on reset day! For U.S. players, that will be today! As long as there are no further issues reported, E.U. players will get access to Warband Bank tomorrow (31 July).
Currency Transfers:
Although the option is still available, it’s widely recommended that players looking to transfer currencies from one player to an alt do so with care. Reports suggest that currency amounts are not calculated properly, leading to discrepancies; in some instances, they are not even working.
There’s no ability to transfer Anima, even though it was possible in the Alpha testing phase. Currently, it’s impossible to transfer Honor, considering it’s possible within Beta. I successfully transferred Champion’s Seals from my alts to my main character to get the Argent Pony Bridle. I did this immediately at the beginning of the pre-patch releasebefore players shared their concerns.
Inability to Trade:
One of the benefits of goldmaking was the recent changes to trading, thanks to cross-realm trading. This new addition gave players more freedom to buy and sell items from one realm to another, replenishing depleted stocks, alternatively known as arbitrage. Furthermore, trading also allowed players to trade gold to alts – increasing balances on alternative realms.
Sadly, with the pre-patch, there have been an obscene number of issues restricting players from trading gold and items with one another. The restrictions will prevent players from moving items, thus preventing them from replenishing purchased items from the Auction House. The positive effect this will have is increasing the value of items as the demand outweighs the supply.
With changes to transmog, you will likely see a brief increase in sales. I’ve noticed a lot of Replica Transmog sales this week!
Heirloom Issues:
If you have heirloom items that you have created, you will notice they have a Warband tag on them. Sadly, these also have a soulbound tag, which prevents you from sending these to your alts via the mailbox. The negative aspect of this issue is the inability to transfer the heirlooms you have enchanted (especially grandfathered enchants).
With Warband Banks coming back, I’m assuming this will be the method to transfer enchanted heirlooms between your characters.
User Interface & Game Play issues:
If you check the forums, you will see a vast number of issues, including glitching graphics, the game not loading correctly, error messages upon game disconnects, and the inability to complete raids due to bosses being inaccessible due to levitating high up out of range.
Most issues here are game-breaking and will be at the top of Blizzard’s to-do list. If you’re experiencing problems, remember that your detailed error reports are crucial. With your help, they can gather insightful information from the error reports, effectively irradicating the issues. You are an integral part of this process, upholding the benefits of Alpha and Beta testing.
Earlier Access to Pre-Patch Event:
This morning (30 July), Wowhead reported that the pre-patch event: Radiant Echoes was briefly available to European players. Again, Blizzard moved quickly to disable the event. It’s unclear if any further actions will be taken against the participating players.
For those curious, the pre-patch event: Radiant Echoes begins today (30 July) for U.S. players and tomorrow (31 July) for European realms. The event will last until the release of The War Within.
Open-World Phasing Issues:
Since the pre-patch release, it appears that you will experience phasing issues when joining a group outside of an instance (Dungeon/Raid). With my level 70 as party lead, I tried on many occasions to invite low-level characters, only to experience phasing issues.
All the low-level characters can see each other, but we’re all phased from my level 70! The only workaround is theParty Sync feature, which scales all characters’ levels and item levels to the lowest-level player.
This issue is vital because scaling your character down means you can no longer power-level your alts in open-world content. The only reason I can think of for the phasing issues is quests in specific zones. Zones can become phased based on your quest completion.
Delay The War Within?
Given the teething trouble during the pre-patch and the hundreds of issues currently experienced in Beta, many players are questioning—even demanding Blizzard delay the release of the new expansion. Given the horrendous issues, I felt they might have to enforce a rollback of the pre-patch, but this may have affected their ability to iron out problems/conflicts involving MoP-Remix.
It won’t be news many players want to hear (me included), but there’s merit in realizing something isn’t ready, and there are far too many issues to sort in time for the expansion’s release. Would you be happy to get the game in its current condition on time? Or would you give Blizzard the extra time (delayed release) to iron out all the issues and get a successful release?
For the sake of the game and its continued success and upward trend (thanks to Dragonflight), I’d welcome a delay if it’s absolutely necessary! Those of you will remember the delay to Shadowlands when they realized it wasn’t ready for release. There were a lot of disgruntled players, but the move was necessary. Sadly, the Shadowlands expansion didn’t end well; new content was too far apart, something I’m sure you’ll agree changed for the good of the game in Dragonflight.
A delay would surprise many in the community and may adversely affect current/future sales of the game. However, the bigger picture is that a delayed release could mean Blizzard can release the game in a better state than it is now, which will have a positive effect on the game in the long run. This delay could be the key to a more polished and enjoyable gaming experience, giving us all something to look forward to.
